In 1948 Seeger formed the vocal quartet Weavers, loosely modeled after the Carter Family, that debuted with the Hebrew song Tzena Tzena Tzena. Their arranger Gordon Jenkins added a string orchestra to their cover of Leadbelly's Good Night Irene (1948, but became a hit in 1950), thus creating the first folk-pop crossover.
